What is Interior Design?

The concept of interior design is defined as a professional and comprehensive practice of creating an interior environment that addresses, protects and responds to human needs. It is the art, science and business planning of a creative, technical, sustainable and functional interior solution. It in turn corresponds to the architecture of the space, while incorporating process and strategy, safety and health, with comprehensive solutions for style and aesthetics. The profession of interior design is the result of human development and evolving architecture in industrial processes. The pursuit of the full use of space, user reliability and practical design contributes to the successful development of the interior design profession these days. Designers develop ideas that meet our needs and meet their requirements. At the same time, they benefit from a wide range of skills and technical knowledge. Interior design has been constantly changing since the beginning of the twentieth century, when it became a profession that is highly sought after today. Interior designers are expected to have a working knowledge of:

  • Textile materials, color and spatial planning;
  • 2D and 3D software applications for computer-aided design (CAD software) and modeling of buildings, software known as BIM;
  • Structural knowledge, health standard and safety in construction activities.

Interior designers work with both project contractors and architects, engineers, furniture manufacturers and distributors. To become a successful interior designer, you need a good knowledge of the material and the skills to work in many directions such as architecture, graphic design and decorative arts. You also need to have knowledge of textiles, lighting design, furniture, etc.
